How to Waterproof Motorcycle Clothing: A Complete Guide

Motorcycle riding in the rain can be both fun and exciting, but you must be ready for it. A smooth and dry ride is possible thanks to just one important factor: waterproof motorcycle clothing.

For anyone going on short or long cycling trips, keeping your gear water-resistant makes you safer and more snug while riding. This guide will explain how to properly waterproof your motorcycle gear, what to look for in waterproof clothing, and how WARDLER has made riding in the rain simple.

Why Waterproof Motorcycle Gear Matters

Let’s begin with the reason behind what we do before we explain the steps:

Safety: Wet, heavy clothes tend to slow down your mind and your reactions.

Comfort: Not many people willingly get dressed in waterlogged clothing.

Gear longevity: Water exposure can cause fabric and stitches to break down with time.

Protection: By blocking wind, waterproof gear keeps riders’ body temperature steady, even when it’s chilly outside.

There Are Types of Motorcycle Clothing That Need to Be Waterproofed

Here’s a description of what should usually be waterproofed:

Motorcycle Jackets (textile or leather)

Riding Pants

Gloves

Boots

Rain Covers or Overalls

While some products are waterproof out of the box, you may still need to reproof them as time goes on.

1. Choose the Right Material

Please pay attention to the materials in waterproof motorcycle gear, as they should be natural water-repellents or treated to resist water.

Look for:

Gore-Tex® or similar membranes: Breathable and waterproof

PU (Polyurethane) coatings: Often used in textile gear

Sealed or taped seams: Don’t let water seep into the shoes through the stitching.

Waterproof zippers and storm flaps

2. Apply waterproof sprays and treatments that wash out.

If you aren’t quite sure your gear will keep you dry, Nikwax, Scotchgard, or Granger’s can make it work better by helping it repel water.

Application Steps:

For Jackets and Pants:

Always clean the garment using a specialized cleaner instead of regular detergent.

Cover the outer part of the tent with a waterproof spray.

Hang it up to dry naturally, or use your dryer if the label indicates that heat is needed for the treatment.

For Gloves and Boots:

Apply waterproofing cream or spray that is made for leather or textiles specifically.

Pay attention to the seams, the stitching, and areas around your knuckles.

3. Use Waterproof Liners or Overlayers

To add further protection, or if your other clothes aren’t waterproof, get:

Removable waterproof liners: They are placed under your clothing or gear.

Rain overalls: Sit-on-top suits that cover your jacket and pants all together.

Boot and glove cover: Quick solutions for unpredictable rain.

Pro Tip:

Make sure you pack a small rain suit in your motorcycle bag in case you run into rain.

4. Regular Maintenance is Key

Waterproofing isn’t a one-and-done job. Retreat waterproofing every few months, especially if the item has been heavy-duty used or machine-washed. Inspect your gear regularly after being in the rain to make sure it is not getting worn, and no leaks appear.

5. Buy good quality waterproof gear that is WARDLER-approved.

Riding a motorcycle in any weather means having clothing suitable for the task. That’s where WARDLER comes in.

WARDLER Rain Jacket & Rain Pants

When the weather turns, WARDLER’s rain jacket and rain pants help keep you dry all the way to your back.

Fully Waterproof: Designed with good-quality PU coating that helps keep rain and wind out.

HI VIS Patches: Because reflective panels are on the jacket and pants, they help you stay seen whenever there is not much light, which is a must for traveling on wet roads.

Easy to Layer: Lightweight yet sturdy, WARDLER rain gear can fit over what you already have on when riding your motorcycle.

Rider-Friendly Fit: You can adjust the waist, cuffs, and how tightly the ankles close to keep out water and for a snug fit.

Compact & Packable: The board can be compacted to save space in your bag or under the plane’s seat.

By using WARDLER’s rainwear, you can enjoy your ride with complete confidence.

Why Choose WARDLER for Rain Riding?

Because WARDLER riding clothes are water-repellent, keeping you dry when you get caught in the rain while riding.

WARDLER is a brand started by bikers and made for bikers. Sympathizing with people who experience soggy gear and fogged visors, we always make our products with performance and defence as the main priorities.

WARDLER Highlights:

Rain gear that includes HI VIS Safety Patches

Storm flaps, breathable cloth, and zippers that prevent water from coming in

Modern styling along with useful features.

Meant to provide all-weather dryness while still being comfortable and easy to move in

Rainy weather, whether during summer or the monsoon, shouldn’t keep you away from riding. Our waterproof collection at WARDLER helps you stay safe and comfortable.

Some Last Pointers to Keep in Mind

Test your gear: Drizzle some water on your jacket or gloves to check if it forms beads.

Carry backups: Taking along extra gloves or boot insides can be very helpful during longer trips.

Check the weather: Preparation is your best defence.

Store smart: Hang all your clothes and gear to dry after usage to avoid things getting smelly or moldy.

Conclusion

Safety, performance, and peace of mind are the chief reasons to waterproof motorcycle clothing. Whatever riding gear you use, be sure to think about staying dry each time you hit the road, including treating your existing gear or choosing waterproof products from trustworthy brands like WARDLER.

I followed the sizing chart and the fit is great. Very comfortable and nice ventilation for hot weather riding.

Wardler rain coat

I ordered an XL to go over my jacket I usually wear when riding and it was perfect. The color is bright and it feels like good material. I would have given it a 5 but haven’t tried it in the rain yet.

Pleasantly surprised

Cleaned on a Facebook ad because the gear looked like good quality. Did a little prior research and other users seemed to have good experiences. I purchased a pair of leather gloves and was blown away by the quality. I have expensive gloves from the typical brands and these are on par but far less money. Already took them on a ride and they performed well. I did need to stretch them a bit but now they are perfect. Couldn't ask for anything more. The leather is quality, the stitching looks impressive and the styling is great. I'd highly recommend their gloves and will probably try other gear
